My mother made this cake all the time when I was growing up. Moist and delicious, it is very quick and easy to make; it doesn\'t even require a mixer!
Ingredients

- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 4 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Preparation
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl. Boil butter, water and cocoa. Add sugar to the butter, water and cocoa mixture. Mix well. Whisk in eggs and sour cream and vanilla followed by the dry ingredients.
For a sheet cake, bake in a 9x13 pan at 375 for 20-22 minutes. Frost while still warm with Texas Sheet cake frosting.
For a layer cake, bake in two 8-inch pans prepared with Pam for baking with parchment paper on the bottoms. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
